This project aims to enhance quantum repeaters using rare-earth-doped crystals to facilitate long-distance quantum communication. It focuses on improving entanglement generation rates and storage capabilities, paving the way for practical applications in quantum networks.
A long-distance quantum network requires quantum repeaters dispersed between the end nodes.
At intercity distances, the entangling rate of quantum repeaters may be limited by the photon travel time and the classical communication time.
Quantum repeaters and memories based on rare-earth-doped crystals overcome this limitation, as the atomic frequency comb (AFC) protocol preparing these memories allows for temporal multiplexing.
