The ACTION project aims to develop a miniaturized cochlear implant that uses pulsed infrared laser light to stimulate hearing cells. This innovative approach seeks to improve hearing restoration while minimizing damage to neural tissue.
The ACTION project builds on the recent discovery that relatively low levels of pulsed infrared laser light are capable of triggering activity in hair cells of the partially hearing (hearing impaired) cochlea and vestibule.
