This project investigates the role of adenosine, a signaling molecule, in placental development and amino acid transport during pregnancy. It aims to understand how hypoxia affects fetal growth and the implications for infants with intrauterine growth restriction.
Altered fetal growth patterns, i.e. reduced growth in utero (intrauterine growth restriction, IUGR) are associated with perinatal morbidity as well as adverse consequences in adult life, e.g. cardiovascular disease.
