This project investigates cognitive aging, particularly focusing on navigational abilities in the elderly. By combining neurobiology and cognitive neuroscience, it aims to understand the mechanisms of spatial navigation and develop interventions to enhance memory and mobility in older adults.
By 2040, the European population aged over 60 will rise to 290 million, with those estimated to have dementia to 15.9 million.
These dramatic demographic changes will pose huge challenges to health care systems, hence a detailed understanding of age-related cognitive and neurobiological changes is essential for helping elderly populations maintain independence.
