This project investigates the evolutionary history of eukaryotic algae, focusing on two groups: Corallinales and Dasycladales. By generating new genetic data and analyzing it with established datasets, the project aims to clarify the timeline of plastid evolution and its correlation with major speciation events.
Eukaryotic algae evolutionary history is still fairly unknown.
Thanks to state-of-the-art evolutionary models, next-gen sequencing and high computational capabilities, we are going to shed some light on the matter.Corallinales (red algae) and Dasycladales (green algae) are two extant living groups of calcareous algae with a rich fossil record (~140 and ~500 myr respectively).
