This project focuses on peanut allergies, investigating the role of specific antibodies in allergic reactions and the potential of oral immunotherapy as a treatment. By using humanized mouse models and clinical samples, it aims to establish a link between protective antibodies and successful allergy management.
Food allergies are chronic diseases of increasing prevalence for which there is no approved treatment other than food allergen avoidance.
Among all food allergies, peanut allergy is a particularly important public health problem since peanut allergy tends to persist throughout life and is more likely than other types of food allergies to cause severe shock (i.e., “anaphylaxis”) and death.
The current paradigm states that peanut allergy is mostly triggered by IgE antibodies.
