The ALOD project examines the historical legal category of manorial allodium in Denmark, Austria, and Bavaria, focusing on the coercive powers it granted lords over rural labor from the 13th to the 17th centuries. It aims to analyze legal shifts during key historical crises.
This innovative project aims to write the first systematic account of the legal category of manorial allodium, a seemingly highly private form of property, as it developed in public legislation between the 13th and the 17th centuries, with a focus on the coercive abilities it it confirmed for, or conferred upon, lords.
My main case will be Denmark, which will then be set in a comparative study with Austria and Bavaria.
