The Aortoseal project focuses on developing a new implant for treating abdominal aortic aneurysms. This device aims to combine the benefits of traditional surgery and endovascular repair, reducing the need for high-risk procedures and improving patient outcomes.
Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a focal enlargement of the abdominal aorta below the renal arteries and is found in up to 4 million patients globally each year.
If left untreated it can be fatal, so it is imperative to provide early, prophylactic treatment before a rupture occurs.
