This project focuses on editing and interpreting ancient hexametric texts from Oxyrhynchus, Egypt. It involves direct examination of papyri to provide new readings, translations, and bibliographical information, aiming to enhance understanding of these historical compositions.
The project consists of an edition of the unidentified hexametrical texts on papyri and parchments from Oxyrhynchus, Egypt.
The corpus will include 77 papyri, 49 of which are preserved at the Oxyrhynchus Collection in Oxford.
New readings will be provided through a direct inspection of the original papyri housed in the Sackler and the Bodleian Libraries in Oxford, in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, as well as 13 other European and American institutions. A revision of the texts will suggest differe…
