AstroGeo aims to extend geological timescales by using geological records to understand Earth's orbital variations over millions of years. This project seeks to create a comprehensive database of orbital solutions to enhance paleoclimate studies and provide insights into the solar system's history.
According to Milankovitch (1941), some of the large climatic changes of the past originate in the variations of the Earths orbit and of its spin axis resulting from the gravitational pull of the planets and the Moon.
These variations can be traced over several millions of years (Ma) in the geological sedimentary records.
