The AsymFeCH project aims to develop sustainable iron-catalyzed reactions for the enantioselective synthesis of pharmaceuticals. By replacing precious metals with iron, it seeks to create greener and more cost-effective methods for producing chiral compounds.
The importance of chirality in bioactive molecules is well established with only one enantiomer exhibiting the desired biological activity.
To date, more than 90% of chiral drugs on the market are supplied as racemates potentially causing side-effects or of uncertain bioactivity.
