The Athero-Flux project aims to improve cardiovascular disease prevention by studying the role of specific lipids, particularly ceramides, in heart health. It seeks to identify new therapeutic targets and develop innovative lipid-lowering treatments beyond traditional statins.
Lipid lowering has significantly reduced cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality in EU.
However, the aim to abolish CVD in EU is far from achieved and attempts to improve on the benefits of statins with new agents have not yet delivered new therapeutics.
