This project investigates how distraction from unpredictable auditory stimuli affects task performance. It aims to understand the mechanisms that allow individuals to maintain focus and recover from distractions, contributing to insights on attention-related disorders.
Giving adequate responses to infrequent, unpredictable events occurring in the environment is crucial in many tasks in everyday life (e.g. driving a car, etc.).
Such events draw our attention away from the task at hand, or make the use of infrequently used response alternatives necessary, and thereby often lead to a temporary performance loss: responses are slower and more mistakes are made.
