This project investigates how natural killer cells recognize bacteria, aiming to understand the interactions between NK cell receptors and bacterial strains. It seeks to uncover the physiological roles of these receptors in bacterial recognition and their implications for immune response.
NK cells that are well known by their ability to recognize and eliminate virus infected and tumor cells were also implicated in the defence against bacteria.
However, the recognition of bacteria by NK cells is only poorly understood. we do not know how bacteria are recognized and the functional consequences of such recognition are also weakly understood.
In the current proposal we aimed at determining the “NK cell receptor-bacterial interactome”.
