This project focuses on the production of magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles using genetically engineered microbes. These nanoparticles are designed for various biomedical applications, including drug delivery and imaging, with an emphasis on improved biocompatibility and cost-effective manufacturing.
Of tremendous biomedical and clinical interest are magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (MNP) that can be tailored to fulfil specific functions, for instance as actuated drug carriers, tracers for magnetic imaging modalities, or heat generators in magnetic hyperthermia for cancer therapy.
