The BELLEROPHON project aims to develop a novel vaccine against Staphylococcus aureus, including resistant strains. It will combine various antigens and innovative delivery methods to elicit strong immune responses, with the goal of reducing infection rates and antibiotic use.
Staphylococcus aureus, including Meticillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), is one of the most important bacterial pathogens, causing skin, wound, and deep infections in both the community and in hospitals.Treatment is difficult and expensive and may require prolonged intravenous antibiotic therapy.
