This project focuses on developing an efficient deorbit system for spacecraft to address the growing issue of space debris. The proposed system utilizes magnetic drag on a conductive tether, eliminating the need for propellant and power supply, while simplifying the deorbiting process.
Concern about the growth of space debris, aggravated by the increase in the number of countries with direct access to space, made the SPA.2010.2.3-02 Call Topic suggest "preventing generation of new debris and de-orbiting upper stages and spacecraft after mission completion".
