This project investigates the relationship between supermassive black holes and galaxy evolution. It aims to refine mass estimates of black holes to better understand their influence on galaxy formation and the surrounding environment.
An important question in modern cosmology concerns the formation and evolution of galaxes and galaxy clusters.
Supermassive black holes are known to reside at the centers of most galaxies and are thought to be intimately linked to how galaxies form and evolve because we observe in the local universe a tight relationship between the mass of the black hole and the central spherical concentration of stars in the galaxy.
What physical processes led to this relation is not known.
