This project investigates the role of specific proteases produced by Schistosoma parasites in host interactions and immune evasion. By understanding these bioactive molecules, the research aims to identify potential targets for new treatments for schistosomiasis, a significant health issue in developing countries.
Schistosomiasis caused by trematode parasites, the Schistosoma bloodflukes, represents one of the most serious chronic infections in the developing world with more then 200 million people infected and many more at risk.
