This project investigates the biosynthesis of cutin and suberin, which are lipid polymers crucial for plant protection. By understanding the enzymatic processes involved, it aims to enhance crop resistance to pathogens and improve the production of valuable fatty acids.
Cutin and suberin are plant-specific extracellular lipid polymers that are involved in critical water and pathogen barrier functions at the interface between plants and their environment.
The biosynthesis of these glycerol- and fatty acid-based polymers remains largely unknown.
