This project investigates the sugar uptake and transport mechanisms in cotton plants to develop bio-based fibers with tailored properties. By utilizing sugar derivatives, the goal is to enhance the hydrophobicity of cotton fibers, providing a sustainable alternative to traditional chemical manufacturing processes.
Naturally produced fibers have always played central roles in shaping human civilizations.
Current hazardous chemical-based manufacturing processes and consumers' preferences for cotton products are putting much strain on the future of cottons global economy.
Thus, it is urgent to seek future sustainable alternatives.
