The BioPollAr project investigates the interactions between climate change, carbon cycling, and persistent organic pollutants in polar aquatic ecosystems. It aims to understand how these factors affect contaminant behavior and food web dynamics.
Global change, especially global warming, is affecting the Polar Areas with great magnitude.
Some of the most rapid changes associated with warming are occurring in polar terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems, associated with changes in the carbon cycle (C-cycle), sea ice dynamics, nutrient loadings and perturbation of sinks of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and greenhouse gases.
