This project aims to enhance our understanding of biogeochemical processes in the Southern Ocean by using sensor-based measurements to analyze carbon production and export. It will utilize existing datasets to improve the accuracy of these measurements and assess their implications for climate change.
The Southern Ocean is one of the most biogeochemically-important regions on Earth, representing a critical region for inorganic and organic carbon sinks.
However, regional differences and logistical challenges, make general statements about Southern Ocean processes difficult and inaccurate.
To get a more accurate understanding of the Southern Ocean and globe, direct comparisons of key processes between regions are needed.
