This project investigates the potential of bone morphogenetic protein 2 to protect neurons affected by Parkinson's Disease. It aims to develop a novel therapy that could improve motor function and address the neurodegenerative aspects of the disease.
Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease. PD affects more than 6 million people worldwide while 1.2 million people have PD in Europe.
For the European economy PD has a total socioeconomic cost of €13.9 billion per annum.
With the aging demographic the number of individuals affects by PD are projected to double by 2030 highlight the need for disease modifying therapies.
