The BOB project investigates the role of bacteriocins, antimicrobial peptides produced by bacteria, in the formation of oral biofilms. By employing advanced genetic engineering and bioinformatics, the project aims to understand microbe interactions and the significance of immunity genes in biofilm development.
In the BOB project, the role of bacteriocins in shaping oral biofilms will be investigated by moving a Spanish researcher currently working in Ireland to the Norwegian University of Life Sciences.
Bacteriocins are antimicrobial peptides produced by bacteria primarily known as killer peptides, and producing bacteria protect themselves expressing dedicated immunity proteins.
