BtRAIN seeks to enhance drug delivery to the central nervous system by studying brain barrier functions. The project aims to identify key genes and develop predictive models to improve treatments for neurological disorders.
The brain barriers function to protect the central nervous system (CNS) from neurotoxic compounds.
By the same traits they unfortunately block delivery of drugs to the CNS thus hindering proper diagnosis and effective treatment of neurological disorders including Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis.
The unusual complexity of the brain barriers has severely hampered progress in the market of CNS targeting therapeutics.
