The C123 project focuses on developing a more sustainable method for producing propylene and other C3 chemicals from methane resources. By creating efficient catalytic processes, it aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with traditional production methods while utilizing underexploited carbon sources.
Propylene production is classified as the 4th largest emitter of greenhouse gases among the major chemical compounds.
As the polypropylene market is huge and still growing, it is essential to find alternatives to current, energy-intensive production processes to meet the European environmental challenges.
