CADENCE aims to revolutionize cancer therapy by using heterogeneous catalysis to target tumors. The project focuses on delivering catalysts directly to tumors and activating them remotely to deplete growth-promoting molecules and generate toxic byproducts.
Despite intense research efforts in almost every branch of the natural sciences, cancer continues to be one of the leading causes of death worldwide.
It is thus remarkable that little or no therapeutic use has been made of a whole discipline, heterogeneous catalysis, which is noted for its specificity and for enabling chemical reactions in otherwise passive environments.
