This project focuses on improving the use of nanostructured carbon in polymer composites by preventing agglomeration through the synthesis and functionalization of carbon nanotubes and graphene. The aim is to enhance material performance for applications like marine coatings and biodegradable products.
One of the major obstacles in the effective use of nanostructured carbon as reinforcement in polymer matrix composites is their agglomeration and poor dispersion within the metallic matrix.
To overcome this obstacle the proposed project will synthesize and functionalize nanoscaled polymers of carbon nanotubes (mainly) and graphene sheets by employing environmentally friendly and cost-effective methods.
