This project focuses on developing personalized computational tools to assess knee cartilage health and predict osteoarthritis progression. By integrating biomechanics and artificial intelligence, it aims to enhance rehabilitation strategies for individuals at risk of knee osteoarthritis.
Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a leading cause of disability worldwide, with ~14% prevalence in Europeans aged over 40. KOA prevalence continues to rise, thus far, with no cure or proven prevention protocols.
Nonetheless, an aberrant knee mechanobiological environment is known to accelerate KOA development.
Tailored rehabilitation, aiming to favorably alter knee biomechanics and restore the joint, has shown great potential to postpone or decelerate KOA progression.
