This project aims to develop high-efficiency solar cells using quantum dots made from chalcopyrite materials. By enhancing the optoelectronic properties of these materials, the project seeks to achieve significant improvements in solar energy conversion efficiency, potentially reaching up to 60%.
Solar cells based on today’s technology are limited to power conversion efficiency around 30%.
To achieve mass deployment of photovoltaic systems there is the need to lower the actual production costs and one way to do so is to produce solar cells with very high efficiencies.
Intermediate band solar cells are, in theory, limited to efficiencies as high as 60% and they can be prepared by incorporating quantum dots in a matrix material.
