CIGUALERT aims to develop a rapid and reliable method for detecting ciguatoxins in fish, replacing traditional mouse bioassays. This project focuses on improving public health and reducing economic losses associated with Ciguatera Fish Poisoning through better detection methods.
The worldwide most common type of marine foodborne intoxications is Ciguatera Fish Poisoning (CFP) caused by the consumption of fish contaminated with ciguatoxins (CTXs).It is estimated that affects up to 500,000 persons poisoned, annually.
