CIPHER explores the global impact of hip hop culture, investigating how this music transcends its African American roots to resonate with diverse communities worldwide. The project employs a new digital methodology to analyze hip hop's role in shaping local identities and cultural practices.
CIPHER will launch the global research initiative, Hip Hop Interpellation, pilot a new semantic digital/ethnographic web methodology, and codify the emergent discipline of global hip hop studies.
