This project seeks to address age-related hearing loss by utilizing a fruit fly model to identify compounds that may prevent or treat this condition. It aims to enhance drug discovery processes for hearing loss therapies through collaboration with industry partners.
SHORT SUMMARY ABSTRACT (2,000 characters max.)The widespread increase in Hearing Loss is one of the major threats to future well-being in ageing human societies.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) expects that by 2050 more than 900 million people will suffer from disabling hearing loss (i.e. a hearing loss >40dB in the better hearing ear for adults and >30 dB for children, respectively).
The corresponding global cost is estimated to be more than US$ 1 trillion per year.
