This project aims to discover new antibiotics from microbial natural products by utilizing cocultivation techniques. By exploring previously silent gene clusters in bacteria, it seeks to identify and purify novel antibacterial compounds that can address emerging infectious diseases.
New antibiotics are urgently needed to combat persistent, emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
Historically, microbial natural products have been a prolific source of antibacterials, and the screening of microbial extracts has yielded many classes of antibiotics.
