This research explores the yielding transition in amorphous solids, focusing on how they deform under stress. By using a novel colloidal glass system, it aims to clarify the mechanisms behind brittle and ductile yielding through advanced experimental techniques.
Upon external mechanical loading, amorphous solids initially deform elastically, but for large enough applied stress they may fracture or flow as a plastic fluid.
