This project investigates the concept of losers' consent in democracies, exploring how defeated electoral participants accept the authority of winners. It aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing this consent and its implications for democratic stability.
Losers’ consent is both a foundation of democracy and one of the big puzzles in political science.
In democracies, elections divide citizens between winners and losers, and the expectation is that losers consent to be ruled by the winners.
