This project aims to enhance climate models by investigating the conversion of ice clouds to liquid clouds due to atmospheric warming. By utilizing satellite observations, it seeks to provide a quantitative estimate of this feedback mechanism, improving the accuracy of climate projections.
Earth’s climate is rapidly changing, with major socioeconomic consequences. A key scientific challenge is to improve climate-model projections by reducing uncertainty in cloud-climate feedbacks.
The proposed research will investigate a cloud-feedback mechanism that has a potentially powerful but highly uncertain effect on global climate change.
