The CryoARC project investigates the 3D structure of replication complexes formed by Alphaviruses, such as Semliki Forest Virus, using advanced imaging and proteomics techniques. This research aims to enhance our understanding of viral replication and identify potential antiviral drug targets.
Positive-sense single-stranded RNA (+ssRNA) viruses replicate their genomes in membrane-bound, virus-induced replication complexes (RCs). A major genus of +ssRNA viruses are the Alphaviruses (family Togaviridae).
