This study examines how social inequalities in mortality affect family bereavement experiences. By developing a demographic framework, it investigates the impact of kin structure and mortality on individual outcomes related to bereavement across different social groups in Sweden and Israel.
Due to the rise in human longevity, many individuals in low-mortality countries can now expect to grow old, to be survived by their children, and to know their grandchildren.
Yet, these prospects are not equally shared.
