This project investigates the role of Bone Morphogenic Proteins in the progression of bladder cancer, particularly focusing on gender disparities in diagnosis and prognosis. It employs advanced technologies to explore the interactions of these proteins with sex steroids.
Bladder cancer (BCa) is the 5th most common cancer in Europe, with an annual economic burden of €5 billion.
Despite efforts aimed at early detection and targeted therapies, the development of metastatic BCa (5%) remains a major cause of mortality (patient survival rate of only 21 %).
Recent evidence has strongly implicated a role of Bone Morphogenic Proteins (BMPs) in BCa progression.
