Evonik focuses on enhancing the strength of foam sandwich structures for aerospace applications by developing a specialized failure criterion for ROHACELL® foams. This criterion aims to improve static and dynamic load calculations, leveraging Evonik's expertise in foam manufacturing and quality control.
Evonik proposes to contribute to the evaluation of the strength of foam sandwich structures, as demanded in the Call for Proposal (CfP), by providing a failure criterion, which has been designed specially for ROHACELL® foams in cooperation with the German Institute for Polymers (DKI) in Darmstadt.
This criterion has been proved to deliver very accurate results in static FE calculations and might be used as a basis for extension to calculate impact and fatigue loads.
