This project investigates the mechanisms behind direction selectivity in the visual cortex, particularly in cases where retinal direction selectivity is disrupted. By using animal models, it aims to uncover how cortical neurons maintain their direction selectivity through specific synaptic inputs and local networks.
Direction selectivity is a feature of selected neurons in the visual cortex that is conserved in evolution.
The emergence of cortical direction selectivity has been extensively studied but its circuit mechanism is still debated.
