This project investigates the role of the ubiquitin-proteasome system in cancer development. It aims to uncover how specific ubiquitin ligases contribute to tumorigenesis by identifying their substrates and understanding their interactions with tumor suppressor proteins.
The ubiquitin-proteasome system controls molecular networks that underlie fundamental cellular functions such as DNA replication, DNA repair, transcription, protein synthesis, cell differentiation and apoptosis. A large body of experimental and clinical data indicates that defects in the ubiquitin-dependent protein degradation are intimately linked with cancer pathogenesis.
