This research explores the evolutionary history of vertebrates by analyzing fossilized remains using advanced imaging and modeling techniques. The goal is to understand the ecological factors that influenced the development of vertebrate body plans throughout history.
Debate over the origin of vertebrate bodyplan has occupied biologists and palaeontologists alike for centuries but discussions around this topic have been hindered because living vertebrates are unrepresentative of the ancestral lineages in which the bodyplan was established.
