This project investigates the genetic mechanisms behind pheromone communication in the European Corn Borer moth. By identifying genes responsible for pheromone production and male attraction, it aims to enhance understanding of evolution and develop pest management strategies.
Night-active Lepidoptera are among the most speciose group of animals (~120.000 known species) and they possess a unique sexual communication system: females attract conspecific males by using a species-specific sex pheromone blend.
