This research explores how maternal stress affects offspring behavior and physiology, focusing on the influence of the post-natal social environment. Using a lizard species, the project aims to understand the evolutionary implications of maternal effects.
Mothers can alter the characteristics of their offspring through non-genetic maternal effects.
For example, stress experienced by mothers during gestation can have organizational effects on offspring behaviour and physiology – such effects may substantially influence the subsequent success of these offspring.
