This project studies the role of specific proteins in the plasma membrane of the fungus Aspergillus nidulans, focusing on their involvement in endocytosis and cell wall synthesis. It aims to understand how these proteins contribute to cellular functions and their regulation.
The protein and lipid composition of the cell plasma membrane is quite heterogeneous.
In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the arginine permease Can1 and other plasma membrane proteins, show a “patchy” distribution, being enriched in the MCC (Membrane Compartment of Can1) subdomain.
The formation and maintenance of this compartment depends on the transmembrane protein Nce102 and the cytosolic protein Pil1.
