This project investigates how fear is processed in the limbic system by studying specific neural circuits in mice. Using genetic manipulation and conditioning techniques, it aims to uncover the relationship between brain circuitry, emotional states, and the effects of drugs on behavior.
Numerous studies established the role of the limbic system in fear and reward: it integrates sensory information, encodes emotional states and instructs other brain centers to regulate physiology and behavior.
The limbic system, however, consists of many distinct and highly interconnected neuronal populations.
