This project focuses on enhancing graphene's application in digital logic devices by integrating boron nitride barriers. It aims to create lateral hetero-structures for field-effect transistors, exploring their synthesis and electron transport properties through advanced microscopy and spectroscopy techniques.
Graphene – a single layer of carbon atoms – exhibits a unique combination of superior properties, which makes it a credible starting point for new disruptive technologies in a wide range of fields.
However, the absence of an energy gap in its electronic band structure prevents at present its integration in digital logic devices.
This research project will tackle the challenge by incorporating nanometer-size boron nitride or boron carbon nitride barriers in graphene domains.
